Hunting the Northern Lights

In my opinion, the northern lights are among the top 5 most spectacular phenomena that can be observed on earth. There is a kind of magic to see these lights dancing in the sky. Paradoxically, it is a phenomenon that actually occurs every day. But only a small proportion of the world population has easy access to it.
To be able to witness it, you have to be beyond the Arctic Circle (or Antarctic Circle because they also exist in the southern hemisphere), that is to say beyond 66° North. It is also necessary to get a dark sky, which excludes the possibility of observing them in summer (since it is never really dark in the Arctic at this period). Finally the sky must be clear (which is less likely in winter) and be far from artificial light sources.
To gather the best conditions, I went to Lapland in spring to hunt the Northern Lights (to maximize the probability of favorable weather). The result was as good as I expected and the show was great.

Hunting for the Northern Lights is also an opportunity to explore the wide open spaces of the Arctic: its breathtaking landscapes and its experiences of intimacy with nature.
